Dozens of soldiers from Damascus have landed in Riyadh to hold training sessions for troops engaged in the conflict with Yemen’s Houthi rebels. The Syrian government has dispatched these personnel in recent weeks to provide operational expertise to Saudi and Yemeni units to improve their combat effectiveness, according to a senior US official and Syrian military sources. While the mission includes advisory support, a Syrian diplomat noted that any move to deploy troops directly into combat is currently premature.
