The exclusion follows similar restrictions on CNN, which was blocked from covering President Donald Trump’s trips to Tennessee on Sept. 26 and Texas and Oklahoma on Oct. 1 as the designated television pool representative. Other major networks refused to substitute for CNN, leaving the shared TV pool inactive on those trips. The pool distributes footage to other news organizations.
US District Judge Timothy Kelly will hear arguments at 11 a.m. ET on Oct. 8 on whether to extend protection for CNN, MS NOW and Politico, when his 14 day temporary restraining order expires. Kelly ordered their credentials restored on Sept. 24, finding they were likely to succeed on claims that the passes were revoked without constitutionally adequate due process. The Justice Department has asked him to reject the outlets’ request for longer protection, allowing Trump to reinstate the ban.
