UK Reopens UN Refugee Route for Thousands from Gaza and Afghanistan

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced a plan to prioritize women and girls from Afghanistan and Palestinians from Gaza for "safe and legal" travel into Britain. The government will restart the UK Resettlement Route in partnership with the United Nations to accept vulnerable refugees from international camps, with the first arrivals starting this year. All individuals will be screened before arrival, and the volume of entries will be capped and controlled by the Home Office.

The program will begin by accepting hundreds of people and can expand into the low thousands. This initiative aims to provide a processed legal alternative for those fleeing conflict zones, shifting away from irregular routes to reach the UK.
