Hasan, a former Army major and psychiatrist who killed 13 people and wounded 32 at Fort Hood in 2009, is scheduled to be executed at the Texas base on Dec. 3, 2026, at 1 p.m. CT. President Donald Trump approved execution by Army firing squad following Pete Hegseth’s recommendation. The Pentagon announced plans to livestream it, but Trump has since said he will make the final decision on the broadcast.
CNN reported that the livestream announcement caught Army and Pentagon personnel off guard, raising concerns about the psychological impact on participating soldiers and whether they could refuse to take part. A source told CNN that a unit had already been chosen for the execution and that broadcasting it risked exposing the soldiers’ identities.
