A long-range Ukrainian drone operation on Saturday targeted the industrial hub of Omsk, more than 2,500 km from the border, hitting the Omsky Kauchuk petrochemical plant and a 107,000 square meter Ozon logistics warehouse. Regional governor Vitaly Khotsenko confirmed the attack, and local reports indicated that the resulting fires at the chemical facility remained uncontained. Omsky Kauchuk is the largest producer in Russia of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), a chemical additive required to produce high-octane gasoline.
The strike on the Omsk plant is part of a broader effort to disable Russia’s high-grade fuel infrastructure, following a recent attack on Togliattikauchuk, another MTBE producer, and several SIBUR plants. Ozon confirmed its warehouse was struck during the raid. The Omsk region is home to Russia’s second-largest diesel producer, which accounted for about 6.5% of national output before refinery strikes in July and early October.
