2 Men Surrender After Security Breach Near Russian Planes at Leipzig Airport

German police have detained the suspects who drove a vehicle through a protective boundary at the Leipzig/Halle Airport transit hub over the weekend. The individuals turned themselves in following a large-scale overnight search of the grounds after a hole was discovered in the perimeter around 11 p.m. Sunday. While the north runway was temporarily closed to facilitate the operation, police found no unauthorized persons or suspicious objects during their initial sweep.

The breach occurred approximately 2 kilometers from three Russian Antonov cargo planes that remain grounded under EU sanctions. Flight operations continued through the south runway with no disruption to passenger or cargo traffic. This is the second security incident at the facility since August 4, when the German government attributed a sabotage attempt involving an explosive drone near Ukrainian aircraft to Russia.
