The deluge, brought by Storm Adam, dumped over 600mm of rain in some areas within 24 hours, causing the Girona River to overflow and isolate communities. In the towns of Oliva and Pego, approximately 200 people were trapped and 2,000 others were evacuated from campsites as streets became submerged. Spain's Military Emergency Unit and Civil Guard continue rescue efforts for residents whose homes remain accessible only by air.
