The Pentagon confirmed Thursday that it would livestream the execution. The Army scheduled it for Dec. 3, 2026, at 1 p.m. CT at Fort Hood, Texas, where Hasan killed 13 people and wounded 32 in 2009. It would be the first US military execution since 1961. Trump approved the firing squad method following Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s recommendation.
Vice President JD Vance questioned Friday whether the livestream would happen and said he would not watch. Lawmakers from both parties have condemned the broadcast plan. Republican Senator John Curtis urged Hegseth to reconsider, saying: “Broadcasting a death diminishes us and is not an effective deterrent.” The National Association of Evangelicals joined the US Conference of Catholic Bishops in opposing the public execution plan.
