Bernadette Greene-Placentia says she was sexually assaulted in a Sun City parking lot this summer after being knocked unconscious. The Democratic candidate for Congress in Arizona was repairing damaged signs when the attack occurred, which left her with bleeding, bruising and a suspected concussion.

Greene-Placentia filed a police report two weeks after the event but has decided to proceed with her election bid. She is now speaking publicly about the rape to encourage other victims of sexual violence to come forward.
