This epidemic is the second-largest Ebola outbreak ever recorded globally and the deadliest in the history of the Congo, with a current mortality rate of 48.3%. The crisis has expanded beyond national borders, leading to the first recorded Ebola death in Kenya on Oct 6 after a patient traveled from the DRC to Nairobi. Jagan Chapagain, head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, recently termed the outbreak one of the world's most neglected humanitarian crises.
