The judiciary confirmed that Raisi, 21, and Alireza Sepahi, 24, were hanged at Dastgerd Prison after the Supreme Court upheld their death sentences in the Alikhani Square case. While state officials accused the men of killing 4 police officers, human rights groups allege the defendants were denied legal counsel and tortured into confessions. Seven people have been put to death in the same case; Sepahi's execution had been delayed since July after he suffered a stroke before he could be taken to the gallows.
