The software provider Oracle has called off a long-term agreement to provide high-end cloud infrastructure to the Chinese company Tencent, a move that will strip the tech giant of a planned source of processing power for its AI models. The agreement, valued at approximately $7B, would have granted Tencent access to 100,000 advanced AI chips across Southeast Asian data centers over five years to circumvent trade restrictions currently in place within China. The partnership effectively ceased before the U.S. midterm elections after the Trump administration approached Oracle with security concerns regarding the lease.
