The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has issued updated details on a ship targeted in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that a small boat attached two explosive devices to the hull of an outbound tanker. The unidentified boat approached the vessel on its port side and placed the charges above the waterline on Oct 29, triggering an engine room fire that temporarily disabled the ship while it was about 25 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman.
The vessel resumed its course to its next port of call after the crew extinguished the blaze. UKMTO confirmed that no crew members were injured and there was no environmental impact. The incident was one of three reported attacks on commercial shipping in the strategic waterway on Wednesday, including a dhow and a Panama flagged tanker, though U.S. Central Command stated the strait remains open and safe.
