The production capacity of a fabrication plant in Texas will grow by 6,000 wafers per month after a new order for machinery. Samsung placed the order for its Taylor site’s Fab 1 to produce 2nm chips, with the hardware scheduled to arrive by the end of 2026. This addition supplements a previous installation of tools for 10,000 wafers per month that began in late 2025, allowing the fab to hit its full design capacity of 20,000 wafers per month in the second half of 2027.
The Taylor facility is Samsung’s first foundry production line in the U.S., featuring an initial investment of $17 billion and counting Tesla as a primary customer. Along with TSMC and Intel, Samsung is one of three companies capable of mass-producing the 2nm node. Construction for a second site, Fab 2, begins at the end of 2026 and is scheduled for operations in 2030.
