In Limoges, rioters flipped and torched police vehicles outside the 1883 city hall before setting the designated historic monument ablaze, burning the roof, wedding hall and civil registry over three hours until its clock tower collapsed. Demonstrators also forced their way into the city halls of Marseille and Lille, smashing a bust of Marianne in Marseille, burning a tourism office in Lyon and attacking the CNews headquarters in Paris.
Police made more than 400 arrests across the country as looters ransacked Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Galeries Lafayette and Apple stores in Bordeaux and dozens of shops along Boulevard Magenta and near Place de la République in Paris, where eight vehicles were burned on Rue Yves Toudic. The demonstrations began last month over school conditions in northern Paris suburbs before expanding to include unions and Yellow Vest activists protesting inflation and living standards.
