Russia Reports Large Scale Hacking of Voter List on Final Election Day

Central Election Commission head Ella Pamfilova reported that Russia's remote electronic voting system suffered an intense cyberattack during parliamentary elections. Moscow officials stated that remote voting services and voter lists faced large scale hacking but continued to operate normally through Sunday. The Russian government provided no evidence linking the disruption to Ukraine.

The disruptions occurred during the final day of a 3 day voting period aimed at strengthening the Kremlin's hold on power during the 5th year of the Ukraine war. A separate breach of the firm building the system exfiltrated 200 GB of code and personal data of 111.3 million voters. Leaked files indicate that certain e-voting modules do not verify signatures or check precinct results against signed protocols.
