Microsoft has begun sending voluntary exit offer emails to eligible staff, with fully participating divisions including Copilot, Agents & Platform, AI Experiences, CoreAI, Windows + Devices, Xbox, Finance, Human Resources, Strategy & Transformation, and the Office of the CTO. Cloud + AI and Microsoft AI are partly participating, while Marketing, Commercial Business, Security, Discovery & Quantum, and certain data center and sales roles are excluded from the buyouts.
The packages match Microsoft’s standard severance structure, which ran from eight to 39 weeks of base pay based on level and tenure in prior rounds, along with the next two stock vestings and six months of COBRA healthcare coverage. The offer covers about 60,000 employees, or 27% of Microsoft’s 223,000 global staff, across the US, Canada, the UK, and India up to internal Level 70, which includes partner-level technical leaders, directors, general managers, and vice presidents. Eligible employees have until the first week of December to accept, with departures set for Dec 31.
