About 68.8% of daily US Gulf oil production, or 1.4 million BPD, remained shut in Saturday, along with 57.4% of natural gas output. Cumulative crude production losses reached about 4.66 million barrels. Major refineries avoided a direct hit, and Chevron’s Pascagoula plant and Vertex’s Alabama refinery emerged unscathed.
The death toll rose to four from at least two previously reported, with nearly 900,000 customers without power across Florida, Alabama and Georgia. Isaias made landfall near Destin, Florida, late Friday as a Category 2 hurricane with sustained winds of 105 mph and storm surge of up to six feet. It weakened to a post-tropical cyclone early Saturday, but flooding and strong winds remained threats farther inland.
