US Charges Former Energy Department Employee for Aiding Houthis

Ashton Hamed Ellaboudy allegedly purchased precursor materials for drones and improvised explosive devices before his arrest in Washington State. The 51 year old is charged with attempting to provide material support to the Houthi rebels in Yemen, which the U.S. Department of Justice identifies as a designated foreign terrorist organization.

Ellaboudy is a former employee of the Department of Energy who allegedly traveled overseas to use his specialized government expertise to aid the Iran backed group. The FBI initiated the investigation after detecting the purchase of explosive components and drone hardware intended for the militant organization.
