The case had been suspended after the European Parliament refused to waive Magyar's immunity in October 2025, citing concerns that he might not receive a fair trial in Hungary while he was serving as a member of the European Parliament. After assuming the role of Prime Minister, Magyar requested that his own faction support the lift of his immunity to allow the investigation to proceed. The prosecution request occurred on the same day as similar requests for two Fidesz members of parliament facing cases involving damages worth billions of forints.
