DOJ Finds UCLA Law’s 2 Tier Admissions System Discriminates by Race

The Justice Department's Civil Rights Division determined that UCLA Law School rejected white and Asian applicants who held the same LSAT scores as admitted Black and Hispanic candidates. The federal investigation revealed the school operated a discriminatory admissions process that applied different academic bars for acceptance based on the race of the applicants.

Assistant Attorney General Dhillon described the use of race as a "thumb on the scale" that constitutes an illegal practice. The Justice Department will enforce federal laws requiring equal treatment for all students across the nation's law schools to ensure academic standards are not race keyed.
