Luxembourg Deploys Foreign Drone Detection After 1,800 Passenger Airport Closure

Luxembourg integrated new drone-detection assets provided by international partners to prevent further disruptions at Findel Airport. The measure follows a shutdown on Friday evening, Sept. 18, that lasted until about 1:20 a.m. Saturday, impacting 19 Luxair flights and more than 1,800 passengers.

Prime Minister Luc Frieden described the activity as an entirely new challenge involving potentially larger drones spotted over several days. The additional systems were deployed after unidentified and unauthorized drones forced the airport to suspend flight operations, affecting the country's only international hub.
