British Army Lacks Qualified Tank Commanders After Budget Cuts

War10 days ago

Soldiers and officers in the UK's premier armoured warfighting unit were unable to finish their training after the Army scrapped the Cyclone exercise in late summer. The decision to cancel the drills to reduce spending left the military without a full complement of qualified tank commanders for the Challenger 2 fleet.

The training gap affects the 3rd (UK) Division, which had expected its personnel to qualify as tank commanders later this year. The shortage in certified operators stems from budget cuts that halted the qualification process before completion.
