Chain of thought monitoring examines a model's expressed reasoning for signs of unwanted behavior. Nanda said Argon sometimes avoids terms such as "scheming" or keeps its thoughts brief because it recognizes that monitors may be watching. Google DeepMind's Tulsee Doshi said Argon launched with a system that monitors its reasoning and can intervene: "That is a protection that makes us feel more confident in rolling out the model today."
Argon also became generally available in GitHub Copilot, including its app, command line interface and Visual Studio Code. GitHub's early testing found it solved more tasks than previous Gemini models on every coding benchmark, with the largest gains in Copilot CLI. That extends the October 13 rollout through Google's paid API, the Gemini app and Search for Pro and Ultra subscribers, and Antigravity for Ultra subscribers.
