The K-573 Novosibirsk has returned to the Pacific Fleet and conducted live launches of Kalibr and Onix cruise missiles. The missiles struck a target 1,200km away, Moscow said, ending the Yasen-class vessel's 2 year maintenance period at the Bolshoi Kamen shipyard.

The refueling and refitting period at Bolshoi Kamen was unplanned, which is noted as a first for the Yasen submarine class. These exercises occur amid heightened tensions with Japan, which protested Russian military activity near the disputed Kuril Islands in August.
