The rebound followed Tuesday’s 5.46% decline in the Kospi to 6,035.35, its fifth consecutive loss and weakest close since July 30. Samsung fell about 7.4% and SK Hynix about 10% as concerns about competition from Chinese memory maker CXMT intensified. The two companies account for roughly half the index.
CXMT plans to launch DDR5 server memory by the end of 2026 using a denser 4F² memory cell design. The product targets conventional server memory rather than the high bandwidth memory used in AI accelerators. Bloomberg described CXMT’s claimed technology breakthrough as unsubstantiated, and the announcement has not demonstrated an ability to manufacture the design at scale.
