Ukraine Rejects Free Australian Tiger Attack Helicopters

Kyiv determined that the expense of maintaining and operating a new fleet of aircraft outweighed the potential battlefield advantages of accepting retired equipment from Australia. Ambassador Vasyl Myroshnychenko said Ukraine declined a proposal to acquire Eurocopter Tiger attack helicopters because training pilots and keeping the airframes combat-ready would be too costly.

Australia offered the helicopters free of charge as it retires the fleet for similar cost reasons and transitions to AH-64E Apaches. Ukraine has since withdrawn its request for the Tigers to focus on other aviation assets.
