The official toll differs from earlier reports, including a claim by the BBC that more than 200 people were killed when drones hit mourners and a fuel market. Previous estimates from the region's caretaker Information Minister, Yohana Akol Ngor, and other news agencies placed the death toll at 73 people with 19 others injured. Ngor attributed the massacre to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), though he provided no evidence for the claim.
