The operator of one of the largest drugstore chains in the US is developing a strategy to divide its pharmacy storefronts into a distinct legal entity. The proposed restructuring would decouple the retail business from the company’s managed care operations, specifically its pharmacy benefit manager Caremark and the insurer Aetna.
