Iran Attacks UAE Ports in First Direct Escalation in Years

Aircraft traffic across the United Arab Emirates was severely disrupted on Friday as Iranian missiles and drones targeted the region's primary shipping hubs. Iran launched anti-ship ballistic and cruise missiles, along with Shahed-136 drones, at the port anchorages of Jebel Ali, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah, as well as the Strait of Hormuz. This activity marks the first direct military escalation by Iran against the UAE in several years, according to regional observers.

The strikes follow a 72 hour military mobilization in Tehran that saw armored vehicles and tanks deploy toward the Iraqi border. Israel has responded by repositioning Iron Dome, THAAD and David's Sling air defense batteries after Western intelligence detected extreme military movements in Iran. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told President Trump that any Iranian attack would be "the mistake of its life," though he is not currently seeking a preemptive strike before the October 27 election.
