The Wall Street Journal reported that al-Hammami had been banned from flying by Oman over concerns about radical ideological views but was subsequently hired by Flydubai. His name appeared on a flight manifest that went unchecked. It remains unclear whether Oman shared its concerns with the UAE or the airline.
Passengers and crew subdued al-Hammami, and additional pilots aboard landed the Dubai to Tel Aviv flight safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. The aircraft carried 182 people, and no one was killed. Both pilots were later transferred to the UAE, where Israeli interrogators are participating in the investigation. Flydubai’s Tel Aviv service remains suspended until further notice.
