Federal agents’ warrants authorize the use of cell-site simulators to locate a 21 year old student who produces for Don Lemon. The government targeted the college student after an anti-ICE protest and obtained the legal authority to deploy fake towers that mimic cellular signals to track mobile devices.

The US government also sought authorization to use the same surveillance technology against a journalist and a candidate for the state Senate. These court orders allow authorities to pinpoint a device's geographical position without the knowledge of the user.
