AlphaGo Co-Creator Launches Metis Reasoning to End AI Hallucinations

A new artificial intelligence lab based in London is seeking venture capital to build a system that verifies its own reasoning process through evidence and assumption testing. Thore Graepel, a former Google DeepMind research lead and AlphaGo co-creator, announced the launch of Metis Reasoning on Oct. 20 to eliminate hallucinations and agentic overreach. The company is located in the Kings Cross AI cluster and is developing an approach that moves away from generating plausible answers toward a verifiable, evidence-based process.

Graepel and a team of mathematicians and robotics experts released a white paper titled "The Age of Reasoning" to detail the research foundations of the startup. He is discussing these theories today at NVIDIA GTC in Berlin. The approach is inspired by the principles of AlphaGo, focusing on general and embodied AI that can establish what it knows and learn from experience.
