Opaque Systems was valued at $300M following a $24M Series B in February and has raised $55.5M in total funding since originating as a UC Berkeley RISELab project about 10 years ago. Anthropic was previously a customer of the startup and had published a confidential inference design with Pattern Labs in June 2025. It is not yet known if Opaque Systems will continue serving existing clients, such as Accenture and ServiceNow, under the new structure.

Through a new acquihire and licensing deal, Anthropic has hired several employees from the security startup Opaque Systems, including its CEO and CTO, to adopt a platform that runs AI jobs inside hardware sealed environments. This technology produces cryptographic evidence of every run to verify how sensitive records are handled, closing a security gap where data is typically vulnerable after being decrypted in memory.
