The attack began overnight between Sunday and Monday, exploiting a defrost function to force refrigeration units to heat to 50°C, which caused widespread food spoilage and sparked fires at some sites. Affected retailers include up to 200 Intermarché stores, nearly 100 Coopérative U locations, and branches of Carrefour Market, Monoprix, Leclerc, and Super U. Total losses in Haguenau alone reached €270,000, and nationwide damages could hit several million euros, while Paris prosecutors conduct a criminal probe.
