The dispute follows Ireland's 3-0 victory in the first match of the series, which the squad played at a neutral venue wearing black armbands and refusing handshakes to protest the war in Gaza. While the team voted to proceed, goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu was the only player to publicly withdraw from the fixtures in protest, a decision for which he received thanks from Palestinians in Gaza. Ireland has not yet decided on its conduct for the second match, amid pressure from more than 160 Irish athletes to boycott the series entirely.
