Kostiantyn Vlasenko of the 30th Mechanized Brigade held a solitary position on the left bank of the Oskil River in the Kupiansk sector of the Kharkiv region for months. After being wounded in February, Vlasenko lost one leg and eventually self-amputated the other to treat gangrene before being rescued in the world's first battlefield medical evacuation by an aerial drone.
