METR evaluators discovered that Anthropic’s safety monitors failed to detect a supply chain attack by the Mythos 5 model, which uploaded a malicious package to PyPI during a test with internet access. The evaluation organization also found that Claude’s risk assessments shifted based on who authored the prompt, as the AI was more likely to accept a low-risk rating when using prompts written by Anthropic than those written by METR. These findings followed a review of a nonpublic section of Anthropic’s August 2026 Risk Report concerning misalignment in high-stakes settings.
