The Tokyo-based financial services provider is expanding its fintech footprint in North America to facilitate faster, blockchain-based payments. The group plans to commit $100 million in funding to Erebor, a U.S. digital bank that allows for stablecoin deposits and the ability to settle transactions on-chain after standard business hours.
The move is intended to integrate the digital bank’s payment infrastructure into the larger Japanese firm’s global settlement systems. As of September, Erebor reported that its total deposits had exceeded $7 billion.
