Crypto investigator WazzCrypto estimated losses at $93.46 million affecting 467 victims across eight networks, mostly on Tron and Bitcoin, and said Tether appeared to have frozen at least $10 million in USDT. An address linked to the thefts converted 2 million USDT to USDD on Oct. 9, moving those funds outside Tether's freeze controls. MistTrack also linked a wallet that sent 464 ETH to Tornado Cash in 23 deposits to the thefts.
Former Mt. Gox chief Mark Karpelès reported finding a spy module with a SIM chip hidden in the screen padding of a Ledger device from Malaysia despite intact shrink wrap. The implant's role in the reported losses remains unresolved. Ledger advises CryptoBilis customers not to initialize unused devices and to consider moving assets from devices already initialized to a new Ledger device with a new recovery seed. The company is also developing enhanced protections against tampering.
