The former head of Microsoft Japan and Hewlett-Packard Japan will steer a new regional hub for one of Silicon Valley's most prominent venture capital firms. Andreessen Horowitz, also known as a16z, officially opened its first office in the country with Governor Koike in attendance to integrate its portfolio companies into the local industrial and innovation ecosystem.

The firm targets the growth of an AI-native economy by leveraging national capabilities in robotics, AI, cybersecurity, and defense. Hitoshi Yoshida's appointment as Head of Japan brings established relationships across government and business to facilitate closer ties between US and Japanese technology sectors.
