F-35C Completes First Ford Class Landing on PCU John F Kennedy

Two pilots from Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 23 flew a carrier variant stealth jet to the Western Atlantic on Oct. 13 for a flight deck trial. The F-35C Lightning II performed an arrested landing on the PCU John F. Kennedy (CVN 79), marking the first time that specific aircraft variant has operated from a Ford class carrier.

The operation is part of Aircraft Compatibility Testing’s effort to assess the operational capabilities of the ship's launch and recovery equipment with US Navy aircraft. A Patuxent River F-35 Integrated Test Force team is currently detached to the vessel to monitor the results using a specially instrumented fighter.
