ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent alone have placed orders for 3 million cards with a combined sticker price of over $35 billion to support AI inference workloads. These GPUs use GDDR7 memory instead of high-bandwidth memory to ensure compliance with US export restrictions and to avoid diverting packaging capacity from Nvidia's next-generation Rubin platform. The shift in demand comes as the older RTX 6000D model was discontinued after failing to attract interest from major Chinese buyers last year.
