China Sends 2 Giant Pandas to Zoo Atlanta After 2 Year Absence

Ping Ping, a 6 year old male, and Fu Shuang, a 5 year old female, arrived at Zoo Atlanta on Sunday after traveling 8,000 miles from China aboard a FedEx Boeing 777. The arrival of the pair marks the first time the species has been present at the zoo in 2 years, returning the attraction to the city.

The pandas are on a 10 year loan to join a breeding program aimed at increasing the species' population. They will remain in quarantine for about 1 month before they are introduced to the public, while Chinese President Xi Jinping has described the animals as "envoys of friendship."
