A claim that rioters in the French capital robbed and stripped an 80 year old couple has been proven false by a media investigation into AI generated imagery. France 24 reported in its 'Truth or Fake' segment that images appearing to show the victims stranded in their underwear were fabrications designed to look real.

The misinformation gained traction through social media posts alleging that a couple had their phones, wallets and clothing stolen during unrest on the night of October 17. Some accounts attempted to verify the story by citing police sources and the French newspaper Le Parisien to suggest the elderly victims had been targeted for humiliation.
