Despite shipment misses, SK Hynix is expected to post a record third-quarter operating profit of about 77 trillion won with a 78% margin. Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron have all begun using TSMC's 3nm process for the base dies of Nvidia's custom NVHBM to standardize performance. While DS Investment Securities forecasts DRAM price drops of up to 20% starting in 2028, Samsung's operating profits are projected to fall only 7% to 12% from 2027 levels because of the growth in HBM.
Samsung continues to test its own 2nm process as a backup for TSMC capacity and maintains in-house production for its standard HBM products.
