The Trump administration is now without any personnel at its cryptocurrency policy body after the departure of its most senior leader. The White House confirmed in an email that Patrick Witt's role as executive director of the Crypto Council ended because his temporary detail from the Department of Defense expired.

Witt was the sole remaining staff member at the council following the July departure of Deputy Director Harry Jung and the conclusion of David Sacks' term as crypto and AI czar earlier this year. The exit leaves the council vacant after the Senate failed to advance the Clarity Act, though Witt is expected to resume his service in the Georgia National Guard.
