New financial disclosures show the company saved $2.7B by booking corporate earnings in the city-state, overtaking Ireland as its primary jurisdiction for tax reduction. To secure the savings, Apple shifted as much as $50B in profits through Singapore this year, which provided $100M more in tax relief than the $2.6B the company achieved through its long-standing tax arrangements in Ireland.
The profit-shifting strategy was first detailed in a report by the Financial Times. The findings indicate that the iPhone maker is routing a larger portion of its global income through Singapore to minimize its total liabilities to government authorities.
