The US government has filed criminal charges against Swapnadip Roy and Vicky Ramancha for smuggling fraudulent weight-loss medications from China into the United States. The Department of Justice alleges that the two Indian nationals operated a transnational distribution network to sell counterfeit versions of Ozempic.

The prosecution follows an FDA investigation into the operation's activities between July 2023 and April 2024. According to court documents, Roy and Ramancha obtained the fraudulent drug from unauthorized sources in China to distribute as genuine pharmaceuticals.
