Germany may have cancelled the direct Boeing purchase mainly to comply with procurement rules, budget scrutiny, or changed operational requirements rather than to pre-select a European alternative. The 2027 process becomes a competitive tender with Boeing, Airbus-Kratos, and other NATO suppliers submitting revised bids.
